Before the Season Changes

Today is your first day of middle school. This morning felt different. Not necessarily bigger or louder, but different in the way only a first day can feel. There was a backpack by the door, a new schedule to follow, and the anticipation of unfamiliar hallways, teachers, and faces that may soon become friends.

There were nerves, too. The kind that come with wondering what the other kids might think, whether the classes will be hard, where to sit at lunch, and how long it will take before a new place starts to feel familiar. As a parent, it is hard not to feel the shift alongside you.

Summer is still here, but it is beginning to loosen its hold. The mornings are becoming more intentional. Routines are finding their way back in. There is the comfort of what is familiar, alongside the uncertainty and excitement of what is new. This is a feeling we return to often at Alcima.

We began with questions. How can movement wear feel softer on sensitive skin? How can the pieces we reach for every day be made with more thought behind them? How can we create fewer, better pieces while continuing to learn about the materials, people, and processes behind what we make?

We do not expect to have every answer. What matters to us is continuing to ask the questions, staying open to what we learn, and making the next choice with more care than the last. That is what progress over perfection means to us.

It is not about getting everything right immediately. It is about creating with intention, listening closely, and allowing each season to teach us something new.

As we move into this next chapter of the year, we are holding onto the small comforts that make change feel more manageable. A quiet moment before the day begins. A familiar set waiting for a class. A sweatshirt after movement. The people and rituals that help us feel steady while everything around us is moving.

There will always be new beginnings, new lessons, and new questions ahead. Before the season changes completely, we are choosing to welcome them with curiosity. And to keep returning to what feels essential.
